GA-586ATS Socket 7 Motherboard

With P-150 CPU & 48Mb RAM

This motherboard came out of a mini-tower computer that was auctioned off from a school district as surplus property. It doesn't have a manufacturers name or brand name on it anywhere but there is a part number on the board that says: GA-586ATS Rev. 2D - I assume it was made by GigaByte. The board measures 11" by 8 5/8" and uses the Intel 430FX (Triton) chipset.

Here is a list of the board's primary features:

  • 4 PCI 32 bit expansion slots
  • 3 ISA 16 bit expansion slots
  • a single 8 bit ISA expansion slot
    shared with PCI4
  • All I/O functions built in:
    • 2 IDE connectors
    • Floppy drive connector
    • 2 com ports
    • parallel port
    • PS2 mouse port
    • The keyboard connector
  • 4 72 pin SIMM sockets - All Occupied
for a total of 48Mb of RAM
  • Socket 7 ZIF CPU socket with Pentium 150 processor
the processor has a cpu cooling fan installed
  • 256K of on-board L2 cache
    plus a 256K cache card - 512K cache total!
  • Award BIOS
  • Dallas RTC module

There are well marked jumper blocks to change the cpu set-up options. This is a dual cpu voltage board (accepts MMX) and the CPU speed is adjustable from 75 to 200MHz. The bus (clock) speed can be set at 50, 60 or 66 MHz. Also, the different connections (HD LED, Reset Sw, Spkr, etc.) are clearly marked - unlike some boards I've seen.

The board booted up and ran flawlessly. Both COM ports worked with a serial mouse, I used both IDE connectors (HD on #1, CD-ROM drive on #2) and the floppy connector. I used a PCI video card and a PS2 type mouse, so I feel like I checked out this board pretty thoroughly and found nothing wrong. This is a good motherboard.

As a final bonus, I'm including the port cables that were with this board when it lived in its old (mini-tower case) home. There are the two Com ports (a 9 pin and a 25 pin), the printer port and the PS2 mouse port. This may not sound like much of a bonus to some, but it sure would have made my day, a time or two! PS2 mouse connectors come in several types and trying to find the correct one can drive you crazy if you don't live in a big city.

The picture is of the bare board itself. Not shown - but included - are a cpu cooling fan, a cache card and 48 Mb of RAM - as well as the port cables mentioned in the above paragraph. This is one auction where you get more than is pictured!

This board is guaranteed to be as described and against being DOA - it works now and it will work when you use it of you will get your money back! I'll want the board back, of course, if something is wrong (so I can check it out) but the guarantee will stand.

Shipping to domestic customers will be via USPS Priority Mail with an extra 50¢ for packaging (materials). As packaged for shipping, this board will be in the 3 pound range (more than 2, less than 3), so that will make the shipping cost in the range of between $5.25 and $9.05 - depending on how far you are fron NW Arizona. Shipping outside the US will be considerably more expensive - we're happy to supply quotes when asked.
